Well, yes, a juice cleanse is a liquid diet. However, that doesn’t mean that you should only drink juice and avoid solid foods forever. A juice cleanse is more of a stepping stone on the road to better health. It’s a process that you have to carefully follow, if you want the best results.

Lethargy And Slow Digestion

Most people decide to try juicing because they are feeling tired, out of energy and lethargic all the time. In order to understand why juicing helps to fight that, you first need to understand the cause. Slow digestion could be a major contributing factor.

You see, your body gets its nourishment from food. However, it first needs to break that food down into usable components. That process is called digestion. If you haven’t been eating healthy foods, it can slow down your digestion and reduce your energy levels. After all, your body probably isn’t getting the nutrients that it needs.

Juicing can sort of bypass digestion. Since you have extracted all of the nutrients you need into a juice, there are no solids for your body to have to break down. Not only that, but you aren’t introducing any toxins to your body. That means that your liver and digestive system can relax a bit while your body feasts on the nutrients that it has been lacking.

How To Do A Juice Cleanse

If you want to do a juice cleanse, start when the weather is warm. Slowly and gradually eliminate meat, fish, dairy products, sugar, alcohol and caffeine from your diet. Instead, start eating more fruits and vegetables. Make sure to include plenty of beans.

That process should take about a week. Once it is complete, it will be time to do your juice cleanse. Simply drink 32 to 64 ounces of juice throughout the day. You don’t need to drink all of the juice at one time. Also, remember to only juice for 3 days or to consult your doctor, first. Lengthy juice diets can be dangerous.

You can blend different fruits and vegetables to get the desired taste. So, your juice diet doesn’t have to be boring. Just remember to remove any pits or peels before you juice the fruits and vegetables. Also, be careful about consuming citrus fruits. Too many of them can make your stomach upset.

Going Back On Solid Foods

A problem that most people have with juicing is that they try to go back onto solid foods too quickly. Just as you gradually weaned off of them at the start of the juicing process, you need to gradually go back on them. Have a couple of solid fruits a day for the first day or two. Then, add in some steamed vegetables. Somewhere around day 5 you should be ready to include fish or chicken. Then, before you know it, you’ll be back to eating a normal diet.

Just remember that a juice cleanse will eliminate existing toxins in your body and speed up your digestion. However, you can’t expect the energy levels and healthy feeling to stay once the juicing has stopped. That is, unless you are ready to start eating healthier foods and exercising regularly to maintain your juicing results.
